Solar Grid Connected System
A Grid connected solar system allows you to use the electricity grid when the solar system is not generating enough electricity to satisfy the demand. These systems may also give the opportunity to export any excess electricity generated back to the electricity supplier. The main purpose of this type of solar system is to reduce energy bills and greenhouse gas emissions while saving money on electricity bills.
In addition, power providers (i.e., electric utilities) in most states allow net metering, an arrangement where the excess electricity generated by grid-connected renewable energy systems "turns back" your electricity meter as it is fed back into the grid. If you use more electricity than your system feeds into the grid during a given month, you pay your power provider only for the difference between what you used and what you produced.

An off-grid solar system (off-the-grid, standalone) is the obvious alternative to grid-tied. For home / business owners that have no access to the grid or having frequent power cut, off-grid solar systems are the best solution for them
